Default Fork Damper Rebound Spring

Does anyone know the difference between the rebound spring used on the touring bikes from 1999-2000 (and possibly earlier) part# 45855-77 and the spring used from 2001 forward part# 45933-86? I believe the damper tubes are the same for the 1999-2005 models (if/when a cartridge isn't used on the left) and a lot of the other internals are the same but I can't figure out why the rebound spring is different.

Later bikes are heavier, so perhaps that spring is a little stronger? Just a guess.

I guess that's a possibility. I'm rebuilding my forks with Ricor valves and Race Tech springs and was contemplating switching to the newer rebound spring but am uncertain as to whether or not I should bother.

Thanks for your input.
