Default LEO U-Turn for speeder crashes motorcycle

Sad story for all involved. Never thought too much about it, but now I'll add LEO's to the list of things to watch for and give more room.

Hope the rider and passenger are okay but not sure that's the sheriff's fault. Sadly a lot of riders like to take 21 to Idaho City knock back a few then ride home. That road has taken quite a few people out and there is no reason for it, beautiful and smooth for the most part.

What a sad story - IMO I clearly believe this officer too some liberties and don't think he was fully aware of his surroundings

I don't know who was at fault in this instance but I do know that the LEO here in Ponderay, Idaho will pull U-turns in front of anyone without warning just to get a speeder.

Crap that's Idaho. Speeding throw the book applying makeup, shaving, texting meh. That's not dangerous. It's all about revenue generation and speeding takes no time and is easy to prove.

There's no excuse for that. That stupid sheriff should have been aware of his surroundings before pulling a move like that.

In Connecticut there is a statue, 14-240. Following to close. If you fail to leave enough room for you to stop or move safely around a vehicle making a sudden maneuver in front of you, then shame on you and you are at fault. No one wants to see anyone get hurt but you have got to ride like everyone is out to get you.

According to the witness statement in the video, the Sheriff's vehicle was in the right lane (4-lane highway) when it executed the u-turn. If the Harley was in the left lane, there is no way he could have anticipated that maneuver...

Incidentally, neither rider was wearing a helmet. The female passenger is in critical condition. Not stating an opinion, just relaying the facts...

So it would be perfectly legal to suddenly brake for, say, an evasive, or hard to verify dog, just to cause somebody to rear-end you so you can sue them for whiplash ? No valid reason necessary ?

Kool. Personal Injury lawyers must be having a field day.

Oh, wait, there's that "negligently causing an accident with injury" concept. Oh, well, I was going to get rich in Connecticut. Plan B time.
