Auxilary lamps question

Auxilary lamps question
I have a 2013 Fat Boy and have previously upgraded the headlamp to a Daymaker Reflector LED Headlamp (HD Part# 67700189). I recently bought the matching Daymaker Reflector Auxiliary Lamps (HD Part# 68000075) and had my dealer install them. I was a bit surprised to find that when I turned on the high beam of the main headlamp the auxiliary lamps turned themselves off automatically. I brought this to the attention of the technician who installed them and he mentioned to me that that's the way its supposed to be.
Ideally I would like the auxiliary lamps to stay on irrespective of whether I have the high beam of the main headlamp turned on or off. Am I wrong is expecting it work this way? What is the reason for turning off the auxiliary lamps when the high beam of the main headlamp comes on?
Any insight to this will be helpful.

Certain state laws require aux lamps to be off w/high beam so HD simply wires their bikes to meet "all" state driving regs. You can do the switch yourself...find front wiring harness and switch wires.
