Default Front motor mount.,,

Is there a way to check/ test a front mount to tell if it's the absolute cause of vibration? Seems my bike '05 Road King has developed a vibration it didn't have 3 months ago, and I want to be sure what it is before I start changing parts and getting no results for the exspence.,,

Developed "a vibration" is a little vague. Where is this vibration presenting itself....seat, bars, footboards?? Where it's being felt can start pointing us in the right direction.

Vibration in our rubber mount systems is either from vehicle alignment or worn rubber mounts. The rubber mount can deteriorate over time with oil. It takes alot of abuse as the drivtrain is constantly bouncing on it. It is relatively cheap and easy to replace. Easiest way is to place a jack under the motor and remove the 2 front motor to plate brackets and the bolt through the plate and rubber mount. If the vibration is still there the vehicle needs aligned which is a much more compicated process. I have removed and replace front rubber mounts without changing the heim joint adjuster on the front mount. Carefully remove and replace the hardware without making any adjustments or forcing anything.

when mine was bad you could see it visually (on a jack)
you can try a pry bar and see if there is excess movement good luck

Do you have over 20k miles on it? If so replace them... unless it's clearly rotted there is no other way to tell. Mine have around 30k on them and they need replacement but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's got 55k on it. I might just bite the bullet and give it a go with a new one.,,

Forgive me if I sound new to this, but I sort of am. Aren't their 2 different motors? 1 counter balanced and the other rubber mounted? I thought Dynas were rubber mounted (because mine vibrates quite a bit) and the softails were counter balanced. Again, forgive my dumbass for being so.........dumbass!

Yep the counterbalanced motor or Twin Cam "B" is rigid mounted in the softails and the Rubber Mounted Twin Cam is in the other Touring and Dyna models, and since 2004 the Sportster is rubber mounted

I replaced the front rubber on my '03 at maybe 7 years old and around 35k miles. At that time the rubber seemed to be squished resulting in excessive bouncing of the motor up and down in the front. If I remember correctly it may have had a knock with something hitting on the bottom bounce, or that might have been my '89 FXR but it tooo had the same front rubber mount and needed replaced at 1 point.

I would say at 10 years old and 55k mi you got your moneys worth out of that mount.
