Accent Lighting
I know most people use it for the cool factor but am considering it for the purpose of making other drivers in vehicles aware a bike is in the lane next to them or in front of them.
Too many times other drivers in vehicles just swing into other lanes at night not paying attention if that lane is being occupied.
Is the lights more of a distraction to other drivers than a,
Hey dumbass, there's a bike over here!!!

Never even thought of that.
Just checked state statute and it only forbids front and rear placement of lights other than red on rear and white on front.
It did mention side markers within said statutes as well.
Additionally, forbids any flashing lights what so ever while operating said motorized vehicle on public roads.
And a lot of other nonsense.

Accent lighting...cool factor...really? Okay.
If I had to use those lights to be seen at night, I'd never ride at night.

Move to Florida and you may change your mind about that.
I have never had accent lighting on any of my bikes in the past which was a few years back, and I could have cared less.
Don't heal so quickly these days.
There's only 2 reasons I can possibly think of why somebody would install accent lighting.
1) For show (cool factor)
2) To make a bike more visible at night for all of these blind ole folks down here to see you better at night.

It's illegal here in Minn to "run" or "operate" with those pretty strips hanging anywhere on the bike, and I'm guessing pretty much everywhere else.
Think about it,,
Have you seen bikes going down the road running that stuff when they're not in a parade or special event?

Dug a little deep into the statute subsections and found that the only lights which are not forbidden are white and violate, (UV) WHICH ARE WORTHLESS.
Honestly, I have pretty much lived in a cave for the past ??? years raising a family and we were usually in the house by dark with the exception of taking the family to the movies occasionally or night fishing trips with the boys.
Never really noticed or paid attention one way or the other.
Kids all gone now and the wife and I would like to start taking a few night rides is the only reason I was entertaining the thought of under carriage lighting.
Point taken though, don't give LEO's all the more reason's to pull you over.
Guess I'll just have to install a loud exhaust system and a train horn on the ride.
