So I went to the Motorcycle expo in Denver this weekend for the first time. The wife was out of town so I figured why not. The one thing that caught me really off-guard were all of the bigger MC selling club merchandise. I mean why would anyone buy the colors and logos of a MC that you are not in? Why would the MC even sell that to people that aren't members? Anyone know why? Was I missing something?

 

Money. MC crap is hot now. They are just taking advantage of it.

 

Wannabe, and don't know any better.

 

Support wear is a seller for those who want to support something...like people buying HD stuff and not owning one. Or military items, when they aren't or never have been in...although most don't call them a "wanna be" or "poser". I'd like to buy a support shirt from the club I was in but haven't yet.

 

There are enough people out there who will buy it so they will sell it. It's supply and demand in a free market. I have no interest in buying any of the merchandise but there are plenty of people who do.

I guess wearing club support mechandise is a step above wearing a Sons of Anarchy t-shirt but still is a bit poserish IMO, unless you actually have ties to the clubs.

Also, if you are buying the merchandise to come across as hardcore or to impress the public, it probably won't work. From the merchandise I have seen people wear, the support shirts usually do not name the club and contain a cryptic reference via a number or some insignia that is not the main club logo. The average person will probably not have any idea what the shirt means. I can imagine some little old lady asking her husband, "That guy over there on that motorcycle has a shirt on that says 'Support 99'. What the hell does that mean?"

 

Like wearing sports team stuff, all about money. Just be careful where you choose to wear the club clothing.

Your exactly right but those wannabe's apparently have a lot of disposable income..

The MC's are using modern day brand marketing and turning a profit... That's just good business on their part.

Personally, its not something I would be interested in but obviously there is big market for it....

Seattle's a bit of a hike but I wear my Red Sox hat in NYC every chance I get...lol

Yeah. It's probably not a good idea to wear Seattle Seahawks attire in Seattle right now either.
