Hey all, new to the harleys. Just bought a 93 Sportster. Been workin on it a bit and tonight went to replace the headlight bulb with a brighter sylvania one. Get it plugged in and mocked up, turn the ignition on and nothin. Put the old bulb back in and nothin. Then notice my tailight isnt working either. Speedo light comes on, bike turns over fine, brake lights come on when i hit the brakes but thats it. And a ticking noise from under the seat. Took the seat off and cant obviously spot anything wrong or even see any fuses to check. And input is appreciated. Note: Everything worked well prior to taking apart my headlight to change the bulb.

 

Check the fuses. Under the cover behind the battery. If you didn't disconnect the battery when you changed the bulb (I never do) you might have blown the lighting fuse.
Good idea to pick up an owners manual.

 

No fuses just a bunch of black plastic boxes. Breakers of some sort I'm guessing. No idea which one does what

 

If you find breakers just try each one. My last Sportster was in '87 and I don't remember what the set up was. You might try posting this in the Sportster area, also might try Google for images and posts.

 

Just wanted to say congrats on your first HD and welcome to the forum. Good luck with your lighting problem. I think the previous posts, fuses, is what I'd look at as well.

 

Try unhooking battery then hook it back up if it kicked breaker it will reset it
