Default Headlight problem!

My 89 flhs headlight is very dim, as are the running lights when on high beam, and no headlight at all when low beam is on but running lights are very bright. I installed new light bulb to make sure and no change. Also the high beam blue indicator stays on all the time. I suspect there is a relay or module problem? Any ideas what it may be and where it is located?

The system is very simple on your bike, there is no relay or module. The first thing to check is the condition of the headlight connector. What type of headlight are you using (sealed beam or H4 bulb)?

I had to replace my H4 connector...cheap off ebay...I used a halogen 9003/H4 bulb with a new clear lens....much brighter than before. with the old connector I high beam wouldn't work but the bulb was good. If you have a 7" housing you can run a decent gauge wire from the battery to the housing, like a 12 ga wire an get two relays. wire the battery lead to the relays for 12 v supply an use the stock headlight wire for the signal wire on the relay...I hear it's a big improvement since the voltage for the headlight won't be going thru the switches an all the wiring, just the signal power will.

here's what I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230903852212...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

here's the results:

Check the socket like previously suggested. Then check the voltage at the socket. Sounds like you've lost the ground and are back feeding through the spots.

Ranger 73 I think you are on to something here, a loss of ground at the headlamp bucket would cause the current to find ground through the passing lamps and also the hi beam indicator...

Thanks for all the help. The H4 connector was good so check ground wire to first white connector and found no flow through connection. Took connector apart and ground wire was brown inside white plastic so removed it from connector and connected straight to ground from H4 connector and secured. It works like a charm now!!!
