Is my GARMIN nuvi 50 LM GPS outdated now?

I plugged my GPS in PC to charge and the update screen came up. Only had OK, and I could not find a way around screen. So I accepted and it told me I may need to add memory. Never seen that before but it started and seemed after a while of the green bar running across bottom, it froze. Now it does not appear to charge on the PC. If I bring the drive up on mycomputer, memory appears to be a total of 1.76GB and used 1.74 and the latest update is over 1.8GB when I go to the Garmin website . Unit appears to still work in car. If I put a micro sdhc 8 GB class 10 memory card in the unit, will it use that for the map download? What do you suggest for size and speed of card? Anyway to just get back to the previous version or stop it from running the green bar across the bottom of the screen wanting to update when I plug it into computer? It does it now on my laptop and my Garmin software is not on PC. On their website, they say little about size or speed class other the it is compatible with Micro SD and Micro SDHC cards. It sort of implies you can bring the unit drive and the SD Card up and copy and paste to each. Interesting, they say do not delete the wrong files off but do not tell you what files do what. Thanks for the help

My new Garmin is awful. I've registered on their forum to try to get some assistance. I need to reload maps every two thousand miles of driving or the unit begins to freeze up. Further, I have to tell it multiple times to go to a destination. It seems to always take me home regardless of what I've programmed it to do.

Do you have any routes on it, have you tried putting a card in it?

Never had any problems with mine.
Updated less than a year ago but I did have to install in a memory card to do it.

Last year when I updated mine, Garmin suggested downloading only a quadrant of the U.S. since the maps were getting so large. If you wanted the entire U.S., Garmin said you would need to add a micro SD card. They said a 2 GB is all you need. If you do want to go larger, do not go over 8 GB because they said that can cause problems. I got a 8GB card off of Amazon for less than 5 bucks. I put a small piece of tape over the slot with the card installed so it wouldn't vibrate loose or let water in. I have had no problems.

I had a problem worth mine awhile back but it started working again when I used a different computer. Don't know why or how though. I would try the card thing, cheap option. Think they are pretty cheap at wally world and if that don't work they'll take it back!
