Default Last Year Shovel vs First Year Evo FXSB Help me Decide!

For sale locally are two beautiful bikes:

1984 Shovelhead FXSB. Beautiful bike. Dual plugged heads. Very clean. Full Engine rebuild with 800miles since. Not original owner: $5500

1985 Evo FXSB. Beautiful Bike. 28,000 miles original owner. $5500

I'm torn between the two. I ride Ironhead Sportsters so I know what these older era bikes entail. I am looking for a Big Twin bike of this era, with a kicker (both of these bikes have them), mid controls (both have them) and most importantly, something that will be more comfortable than my sportster for 2 up riding.

With that said, which would you pick?

Hands down the shovel, it's going to go up in price the next 10 years while the evo will still be the odd duck for that year. And don't let the detractors kid you the 84 shovel was just as reliable as the first year evo they shared the same tranny, drive train and lower ends.

For cred' and mojo, the shovel.

For living with it, the Evo.

I'm just curious, have any of you guys ever had a shovel head?

EVO, much better engine, the aluminum cylinders shed heat so much faster leading to better reliability and longevity.

I would pick the shovel, for all the wrong reasons, and because its a shovel, and because TwiZted said so

I'm with you on this one. I had a 84 shovel. Brand new when I got it. I'd take the evo over it in a heartbeat. That evo will be many times more reliable than the shovel, won't need the routine maintenance the shovel needs, and all things being equal, will out run it every day of the week.
