Default Deciding on first motorcyle

I am looking for thoughts on first bike to purchase. 2006 Dyna low with 11k miles or 2014 1200 custom with only 4k. Both are priced about the same. I enjoyed both on the test rides on Saturday.
Is there any big things I should look for between the 2 of them?
Any general thoughts on the Dyna vs the 1200 that would make a difference on a first time rider?

Welcome to the forum.
I'm sure you'll get a varied amount of feedback on the two rides. IMHO it still boils down to which ride you'll feel the most connected to.

Thanks for the response. Is there any thing major issues with the 2006 Dyna's? I know it is carbureted instead of full injection and 11k does not seem like a lot of miles where on the 14 having 4k already seems high.

Nobody teaches their kid how to ride a bike using a 10 speed.

Your first motorcycle should be a 250cc for a season. It is easier to learn the basics and prevent bad habits that will follow you for your lifetime.

Pick the one YOU like and fit best on. If you can afford both and both run fine, then it's up to you which one you get. I could tell which one I'd get but it's not for me.

I had both bikes ('97 1200 & '09 Dyna LR); loved them both. What Wingnut said is the bottom line.

IMO, the Dyna Low Rider is much better if you're planning on 2-up riding at some point. More comfort and power. Does the '06 have a 6 speed? That's a big plus. Also I found the Dyna's lower center of gravity made it easier to maneuver, but not by leaps and bounds.

Ride'em both again to help sort it out. Good Luck!

I agree with USAFANG... select the ride you'll feel the most connected to. Being a big guy, my first bike, the 2014 Road King "fits me like a glove". A 250cc...nah. The learning of good habits comes from good rider training...not bike size.

Thanks everyone. I rode in my teens but it has been 30 years. My rider course is next month.
Mikebel- it is a 6. The carburetor idea over the fuel injection is concern with me. I am not sure it should be.
