Default 2008 FXDL Front fork oil

Hey,

My dad has a 2008 FXDL that needs for seals badly... brake hung on and got hot and destroyed seals inside im guessing.... no dampening at all just spring and bottoms out. We bought the seal kit but need to know 2 important things:

Oil Weight - from what I gather is 20w ... but nothing definite

Oil capacity.. I have seen everything from 10.6 - 26.6 per leg....

Any help would be appreciated!

My 99 vulcan 750 is next lol

20 might be a little heavy. No two manufacturers 20 weight is the same. If he wants a little less dive, use whatever is stock , for and replace 1/3 of the total with SE . Google:Thunder Press motorhead memo forking around, for a little more insight.

I think you really need a manual for correct answers or ask the local Harley dealer.

I really thought that was the purpose of forums like this.... ?????

I belong to vn750.com for my vulcan and get great answers there and share my results and knowledge with others as well.... The purpose of forums is questions and answers.

On the vn750 forums there is always an expert for whatever topic you may have.... guess not here? we are doomed to calling the dealer or buying a stupid book? I REFUSE to pay for a book when we have the internet, that **** should be FREE - someone has to have it.

***For the record the 2008 FXDL takes type E HD oil and 26.6 oz per fork leg per the HD service department who double checked it once it said 26.6 oz each leg.

I hope this helps someone as its the first actual, factual knowledge on this forum.

**bklynbob I appreciate the suggestion and we are just going to use 15wt oil and see how it feels. The capacity was my main concern since this is a total rebuild of the forks.
