Default do dealers think we are idiots

I went to a dealer yesterday and test rode a 15 Ultra. Came time to run the numbers and he came in at around 26000+ otd with about 12000 for my trade. I said to rich. He disappeared for a few minutes and came back with 23000+ not counting tax, prep and freight. Same for my bike. Now, I'm no math wiz but even I could see that it was basically the same offer. I said not really interested but will sleep on it and I look forward to hearing from him in the coming days. Said we can revisit this at another time and I was very happy with the bike I rode in on. Needed to wow me to get a deal done and this simply would not do. It was msrp.

Now, before I get slammed, I know that dealers have to make a living and make some money. I'm not looking for anything that they could not do. The bike I have now I bought from them for msrp, otd. Was looking for a bit higher on my trade to pay off my flhx plus drop 10k as a down payment on the new ride. Want to come as close as I can to those numbers, so when they made the same offer in 2 different ways, well my intelligence was a bit insulted.

I wasn't really all that impressed with the Ultra but if I could have worked a deal that was appreciated by both sides, I could have tried the same deal on a sgs, as long as the ride was to my liking.

Yes, the dealerships think the consumers are idiots. Why? Because too many times, the buyers prove it, over and over again. They will pay full MSRP, prep fees, set up fees, all kinds of add-on fees, and then get raped on their trade, and pay outrageous % rates.

They don't have to think, they already know.

As a former car salesmen told me "there's an *** for every seat".

Out of 100 customers probably 10% come in prepared to duel. The rest get stage fright from all the chrome and atmosphere and take the deal. My numbers may be off a bit but you get the idea.

Yes I`m sure many do! How many people purchased brand new bikes only to have the dealer replace the pistons, cylinders and heads even before the bike rolled off the showroom floor!

One of my favorite lines from yesterday was that "Today is the day to buy. We are so below our quota that you should have no problem getting what you want" That was from the sales guy. The numbers guy then said, " I'm going to sell these bikes and get what I want for them." Basically, this is the offer you will get. I said to my self you can sell this one to another for that price.

Why would they replace the pistons, cylinders and heads before the bike left the showroom floor?
