I will make this quick. I want a Street Glide, ideally a Rushmore bike. I found a beauty (insanely low miles, plus the color I want) at the same dealer I bought my Custom at. I owe $4k on my Sporty and I'm being offered $7k.

I'll have the Sporty paid off by end of January at the latest at which point whatever I get on trade or a potential private sale would get thrown at the glide.

Do I exhibit some patience or listen to the gf who is telling me to "do it"?

New payment would be about another $130.00/month which I'm confident I can swing.

Here's the bike...

Here's the breakdown of the deal. I have a good relationship with the sales guy, so I'm pretty certain that there's another $500.00 in the deal somewhere and/or a passenger backrest and luggage rack.

Sorry, here's the breakdown of the deal...

When I was young one of things my dad told me was, "if you see something you want, and you can afford it, get it, cause you don't know how long you're gonna be here." He is no longer here, but I watched him do that and I have followed his advice and have enjoyed life because of it.

Thanks TripleM...I like your dad.

My thought is if I WAIT to sell my bike (once it's paid off) how much more would I realistically get for it? Another grand, maybe?

Still, I'd have that whole nut to throw down on a new glide rather than just $3k.

I agree with Triple. I've settled for cars and bikes and after some time and wasted money, I ended up getting what I wanted in the first place. Thinking about that time and money, really sucks.

Sell it yourself, cash is better to work with. Trading. Your at their mercy
At least that's my thinking

Not knowing your sporty, $7K for it seems fair.

Is $19K the list price or under?
I don't see any prep fee only $250 that seems OK.
Where's the DMV fee?

Is there $500 on the table? I'd bet there is.
Especially as a backrest and rack.....eg as parts/ accessories
Maybe even a free 1000 first service?

As in post # 3 live can be short and you can afford it...buy it.
Seems like an OK deal to me...although again I don't know the twin's list price or the sporty's details.

Good luck to you.

Thanks Chickin...thing is, if I were to get the Street Glide, I'd be done...no interest at all in the bigger baggers. I've ridden numerous Dynas, Softies, Road Kings and SGs. Was looking real hard at a FB Lo a couple weeks ago, but knew deep down, the SG is what I ultimately want.

Thanks, Kenny...they're asking $18,995.00 for a practically new SG.

My sporty has several add-ons including passenger backrest, luggage rack, Sundowner, detachable windshield, Cobra slip-ons. But, we all know this stuff doesn't mean shyte when it comes to trade-on value.

One thing I'm pretty certain I would do is put the stock seat back on and offer the Sundowner for sale here in the classifieds.

What is your tax rate there? If they are giving you 7K for your Sporty, you should only be paying tax on the difference. That tax quote seems high. Other than that, it looks like a good deal. Selling it yourself and then having 7K in cash doesn't help you at all by the way. If you pay the 7K down in cash, the entire amount is taxable. Dealers actually prefer to finance things. They get a small kickback from finance companies so they are more willing to work with you on price most times. Cash is no longer king...

The GF; she's already looking at riding with you on the SG vs the XL...this isn't a decision that'll affect your retirement outcome; all though you can't make all decisions like this.
Sounds like the both of you would be happier on the SG for some time. No harm in that

Go with the SG. You can practically make it an Ultra if you want to invest enough but have a slicked down ride with the touring capabilities.

None of us have the guarantee of tomorrow so do what you feel you need to in order to make it happen.
