Default Well That Sucks

Bought a new to me 04 Ultra Classic about a month ago. Love the bike but, the front brake was a little spongy so I decided to bleed them off. Took off the master cylinder cover and the fluid looked pretty bad so I decided to do a complete fluid change. I bleed the left side until clean fluid started coming out and then went to the right. As I turn the bleeder valve I knew right off there was a problem. The threads in the caliper are buggered up pretty bad. There was enough Teflon tape on the bleeder valve to choke a horse. Now, it will not seal. Put me outta business for a least a week waiting on a new caliper. NOT Happy.....

Now you have to wonder what else was goobered up you won't find till later.... bummer man. They do make repair kits just for that problem if you have a steady hand and a few tools.

Ahh the joy's of not knowing the previous "shade tree" mechanic!!
I hope you don't find too much more "Bubba fix" hiding some-where's!

I have a sneaking suspicion this was done at a shop. The gentleman I bought the bike from was pretty meticulous with the bike. Don't think he ever took a wrench to it himself. He gave me a "Pile" of receipts for the work he had done. I'm gonna look through them and see when the last break job was done.

And yet another reason I do as much of my own work on my bike as possible. If somebody's going to frog up a job, it's going to be me.

Next time, spell it "brake", and maybe they won't "break" it.

It's an Eleven Year Old scooter ... you'll probably find more "tweaks" as you go along. You could have properly repaired it instead of buying a new caliper but if that makes you confident in the repair then you're all set. Good luck and happy motoring :>)
