Default Road king exhaust

So I have a 2001 Road King Police bike and my question is can I take the baffles out and run it with straight pipes or do I need to get pipes for that great Harley sound?

When i first got my bike i couldn't stand how quiet the thing was with the stock exhaust. So, i drilled and tore the baffles out. That very same day, i ordered new slipons. The stock pipes gutted sound awful if you ask me.

By pulling the baffles you will get very loud pipes, but at the expense of some low and mid range power. To compensate for the loss of back pressure, you can install lollipop type inserts. Big City Thunder makes good baffles that give a loud but deep sound, and more than a few here use Thunder Torque inserts from DK Customs.

I would save those mufflers as they are kool fishtail types that either would sell good or be good to put back on in the event you trade the bike in somewhere down the line. I would do as nevil has suggested.

First off, good looking scoot you got there. I tried the gutted pipes and didn't like them. I ended up getting a great deal on second hand slip ons here in the classifieds. They sound perfect to me and I got them for less than half of new. My thought was if I hated them I could probably resell them and not be out to much coin.
