Beginner rider...braking bad habits??
...no pun intended. Lol
I literally bought my Harley 883 a few days ago. Great experience!!
I already took the MSF which was great learning experience and how to do things the right way. However, during the course, they teach you quick stops in which they tell you to use your rear brake in conjunction with the fronts. Obviously, you get more braking power which is 70% in the front than the rear. Now, when I ride, I seem to use more of my rear brake than my fronts. I'll use my rear brake to slow all the way down then use my front to make the bike actually stop. I also find myself stepping on the rear brake when riding even when it's not needed. Keep in mind, I don't go very fast or ride behind people. I keep my distance. I think people behind me see my brake lights come on and off. Lol.
Are these bad habits of new beginner riders? If it is, what can I do to constantly remind myself?

I wouldn't say hitting the brakes. More like slightly pressing on it because I leave my foot on it.

I never had a front brake in the 70s and when I got a bike this century, I was surprised how much I like it. And the bike I have now, has ABS which is even better.
As for braking, I use both...more my rear than front, since I can press down more than squeeze, or so it seems.

The BRC teaches quick stops using both front and rear brakes.
Yes, I would say you are developing bad braking habits. Cut some tennis ***** in half and use them for cones. Find a good parking lot for practice and work on quick stops using both brakes all the way to a complete stop. This means your right foot shouldn't be coming down until after you are completely stopped. Also work on other exercises - swerves, weaves, slow speed limited space u-turns/figure 8...
Stay off the rear brake pedal except when you need to be on it.
What you got from the BRC is just the beginning of your skill development.
