Default Leather vest question

I'm thinking about getting a leather vest. I noticed some are laced up on the sides. Is this for fitment or is there another reason?
Which do you prefer, lace up or solid sides?

I like the lace up sides myself but just for the extra air circulation, and occasionally letting it out when the leather shrinks up.

Lace up sides are the equivalent of super stretch waistbands. Very comfortable.

Lace up allows you to let it out when wearing it over a heavy jacket or other clothing.
Personally I don't like lace up, as I just think it is a 'cleaner' look being solid. JMO

Lace up for me. Adjustability is important. A good vest will last many yrs and seasonal riding or weight gain my require taking in or letting out.

I like lace up. You can let the laces out to have your vest fit over a jacket.

I like lace up for the adjustability and airflow but if you carry while riding your grip will hang up and show.
