Default Kicker problems

I have a rachet top 4 speed that seems to have an issue. The kicker pops of the gear and spins freely. I pulled the cover off and it's seems I have spring play however does not come out enough to engage the gear for the kicker. And this is a problem, the bike is kicker only. Any suggestions

it is hard to follow your question because you are not using proper part names. If you are saying that the kicker arm seems to slip without the kick starter shaft gear engaging the kicker gear on the main shaft that is an indication that the kicker cover is cracked in the area where the kick starter shaft goes through the cover. Look behind the cover for hair line cracks in that area. If you find any you need a new cover. Also with the cover off check the teeth on the kick start ratchet gear. Also check to ensure that the ratchet gear spring is not broken. hope this helps you.

The kicker will not spin freely. The return spring on the outside is designed to put the kicker in the 12 o'clock position after kicking the bike (provided you followed the procedure in the manual for installling the cover and kicker).

If you can engage the starter and it just pushes through with no resistance then it sounds as though your kicker gears are completely worn out and need to be replaced. If so get the gears from Baker and stay away from the cheap c h i n k $hit.
