What a stupid **** I felt like. The OL and I went out for a ride today. Her first time out, I'd been several times. Stupid me, thinking I had enough fuel left to make it to the "next" gas station. Go figure...hotter than a mad ***** and I run out of gas. I broke my own rule...(getting close...GAS UP!!!!) Yup, I had to listen to the old "I knew it" for half an hour.
I've run out of gas twice. Both times the gas station I was headed for had gone out of business... That sucks when you roll into town only to find a out of business sign on the door knowing that there is no way your going to make it to the next town.
The time I ran out in ND I was living in Redding CA at the time. The first truck that came along stopped and the lady that picked me up and took me to the next station had just moved to ND from Redding. What a small world. She even gave me ride back to the bike.
The time in NV sucked. It took hours to get a ride to the next town and more hours to get a ride back out to the bike...
I ran out of gas once. It was 1976 and I had been riding a Kawasaki and just bought a Honda. The position of on and reserve was reversed. It was the first tank. I had just bought the bike and hadn't filled up yet. I thought I had reserve when needed. I was wrong. I ran out of gas on top of the Oakland/Berkeley Hills. I was able to coast downhill several miles all the way to a gas station only having to push it for about 100 yards. I've come close a few times since.
I have never ran out of gas in a vehicle or a bike but I am one of those that when it hits a 1/4 tank I'm going to fill up. My wife on the other hand goes out of her way I think to make sure the gas light is on in my truck if she uses it LOL. Seems every time she drives it when I drive it next the gas is so low that I am praying just to be able to get to a station
On the bright side to your experience I bet you will never run out again with your OL, she will be reminding you of this for years to come
