Default What rpm?

What rpm do you shift at normally? Or what's your preference? Just curious. I seem to hear many people shift at low rpm.

It's a motorcycle. And it is built. I roll between 3K - 4500 most times. I will kick a gear for a lower rpm at slower speeds through residential areas to be nice.

Depends on how many gears you have and the type of bike. When I had a sport bike it was around 3500 and I hear that a VRod is around that range or a touch higher. In my Fatboy with 6 gears I change around 2500 but to be honest I go off engine sound more than rpm it just happens to be in those ranges for me

I shift by ear. I don't have a tachometer.

3500 - 4800 RPM; I shift 1st to 2nd at 3500 but as for the rest, 4000 to 4800 depending on the situation...

Edit: I should add... those numbers are all predicated on the fact the bike is fully warmed up. Running a bike hard when they're cold is one of the worst things you can do to them... all those shift points are much lower until she's fully warmed up

When horsing around racing the buddy's juuuust before it stutters off the rev limiter lol. Accelerate on onramps etc, 4500, highway cruising I like to keep it about 3000

No tach on my bike, but I am guessing 2500 rpm upshifts in normal circumstances. Short shift gives better mpg and uses torque instead of horsepower to get going.

More or less, I keep the cruising RPMs a smidge over 3k, so whatever that translates into from there.

If I'm getting after it a bit, I'll shift around 4,500 or so. Otherwise, something 3500 to 4000, depending. Occasionally I'll run past 4k, but on this bike, I just don't ride it that hard.

Gradual acceleration [such as surface streets, from a light and/or stop sign] - 2,500 to 2,800 rpm
Hard acceleration such as merging on a highway - 3,500 to 4,000.

However, I shift by engine sound; not staring at the tach.
