so here's my problem 1986 FLHTC. Washed it ent out for a ride ,,got about a mile away and it died. Trailered it home,,no spark. Anybody have any idea what's going on?
wires are about a thousand miles old,,,I checkd the coil terminal posts and I've got 12.6 volts,,,pulled the plugs and get a little spark every once in awhile

Reason: i left out voltage
Maybe washing it didn't have anything to do with it, maybe something was just about shot, and you happened to wash your bike about a mile before your coil, or plugs, or whatever petered out. Maybe look for something that the water would not effect,

If you have power at the coil but not at the end of your plug wire I'd say that answers your question.
I'd suggest you break out the ohmmeter and check the coil and the plug wires before you go any farther.
Directions for doing so are found in the Factory Service Manual.
Speaking from personal experience the older bikes with the amp connectors in the wiring harness don't like being washed. If your bike spends a lot of time in a moist environment use dielectric grease on all connections when you service the bike.
If you have a Power Commander or similar tuner, check your connector pins.
My bike died after riding in a rain storm with no or intermittent spark until they were cleaned, dried, and treated with dielectric grease.
