To follow up on the conversion - w/ the 10.5 inch burley slammer shocks the belt guard fits just fine with some notching on a 2006 1200 custom. I picked up this chrome one, check measurements, took it on/off a few times as I removed material and got it nicely fit in there, painted the bare edges, and she will run it.

It would not work though if you are trying to run stock shocks w/ lowering brackets, because the bottom of the shock travel (which is much longer travel w/ stock shocks) would put parts of the guard you just can't cut away into the oil tank, frame, or something else.
