170 wide tire on Softail Slim - done
Hi guys,
For those that are still considering and wondering if you can fit a 170 wide tire on a Softail Slim, I have done it and it looks good, I did use a 150mm x 7" RSD Tracker Rear Fender though.

I will be providing more reports on handling etc once I get a chance to go for a proper ride.

The tire fitter did mention that any bigger and the curve of the tire might get out of whack sort of speak, he did say that you could possibly go 10mm more. I did measure the “as installed width” and it’s still 170, like I said I am still to have a ride longer that just around my street to be able to comment on handling or if the tire falls of at any higher speed

Thank you HenryT
OK so I remeasured both the factory and the aftermarket fenders
Stock – 180mm
Aftermarket – 172mm
So you are probably better off sticking with the factory if you are looking for clearance,
I also remeasured the tire with proper callipers and its 163mm wide, probably because it’s on a 3 inch rim like Multihdrdr has flagged, so unless you go to a wider rim you will not get the full benefit of the width of the tire.
I also would like to mention that I have removed the pillion and number plate brackets from within the fender as well so that gives you more clearance as well.
Anyways, I will be riding to work tomorrow for the first time on the new tire so will report any problems etc then,
Thank you HenryT
