Default Windshield Wind Buffeting Solved on my FXST UPDATED with PICS

Buffeting was a big problem on my FXST (with a windshield). I tried a quick detachable HD windshield & my vision was totally blurred & I got a headache after 15 minutes or riding over 45mph. Afterinstalling a Laminar Lip the wind hitting the top of my helmet was muchless but the buffeting was still very bad. I finally realized that most of the wind was coming from down under. I had already decided to sell the windshield & then I tried another solution. I bought a National Switchblade2 Up detachable windshieldplus their chrome lowers that are made for an FXST or similar bike. I think these are the only one's madefor it that are not plastic. The lowers attach to the same braket as the windshield but are not quick detachable. I re-attached the Laminar Lip to the new shield & the differance is unbelieveable. It's like riding in the eye of a tornado, not that I've done that but it's sooooo calm & relaxing now, no buffeting to speak of& the cold is not felt nearly as much. The lowers look pretty cool too. I'll try to get some pics up soon. I'm one happy camper now.

What detachable HD shield did you have? I've been looking at model 59802-05.

Here you go, best I could do in a pinch before it got dark.

Above is a good shot of the Laminar Lip. This one fits a smaller shield but it worked with the National. The windshield also has a built in key lock, a nice feature.

Above shows hardware that remains on bike.

Windshield removed in 2 seconds, lowers stay on

Thats what I had. 59802-05. Nice shield but it didn't work on my bike. I never rode with a shield & I couldn't get used to it but the National with the lowers did the job for me. The Nationalshield and the mounting hardwarewas less $$$ than the HD & the lowers were $120 I think. Warning, when mounting the hardware use a torque wrench & do not add a little extra[:@]

I appreciate the info. I guess I like the HD because there is no hardware left when detached. I am torn. Thanks again!

Oh, your bike looks great by the way!

I'm real happy with the lowers, they make a huge difference. If I could have fitted them on with the HD shield I would have kept it but there was no way to do it.

I have new tins coming from attitude paint next week. Take a look.

DAYUM!!! Those are nice! If you find out that you don't like them when you get them, send them on down south here and I will give them a good home.
