Default Flat Black Paint Job Help!!!

I recently had my softail painted flat black. Looks awesome but one problem. If I take for example my fingernail accross it very lightly it puts a scratch in it. When I mean scratch I don't mean very noticable. I mean it looks like it takes the flatness away and you can see some shine. Is this common with flat paint or did we need to do something else to protect the flat black.

Keep in mind I am the ownere of the bike not the actually painter. My knowlege of paint is very low.

Thanks

Try using a flat overcoat on it.

Thats what I think too. Like the Denim paint colors on the new bikes. They are painted with regular paint and clear coated with a flat clear coat. I dont know if I have the terms right but thats the jist of it. I guess Im saying you need a flat clearcoat . Clear coat I think is harder than paint and wont scratch as easy. Im not a painter either but I have read this on this board from paint gurus.

Thanks for the quick replies.

One more note. I believe the paint we had a clear coat mixed in it. Has anyone hear of this or does this not even matter? I also believe the manufactuer of the paint said to not put the hardner in the paint. Is this common with flat paint jobs?

Thanks Again.

Paints usually need a hardener, but if the manufacturer said not use it, I guess they would know. On the clear coat, it has to be put on separately after the paint to protect it. Not much use mixing it in with the paint. The flat clear will be good for your job.

After you wet it, and it dries, is it still noticable.

The black denim on my bike "seems" like it scratches and nicks up very easily. I thought I ruined the paint job after my first ride, but after I washed it all was back to normal.

Ray.

+1 Its called matt clear, the more coats applied, the flatter the finish.
