Air is not your friend. I would drain it. Roll it up in a few sheets of news paper and put it in a couple zip lock freezer bags. Did it to my XR600 carbs and they were still in perfect shape 6 years later.

Moisture is not your friend either. One of those dessicant packs that seem to come in everything these days will help. Or maybe Mom has one off those things took take the air out of freezer bags. That would work too

My .02,

Disassemble it.
Get yourself a 2 pound coffee can.
Fold up some paper towel and place it in the bottom of the can
Put the pieces in (leaving any rubber gasket outs).
Pour in some 2 stroke motor oil and seal the can with the plastic lid.
Put the gaskets in a small plastic bag and tape to the top.

When your ready to use it again, no varnish, no moisture problems and all you have to do it spray down the parts with a little carb cleaner.

The best place to store a Keihin carb is in the trash can. I have stored at least two of them there and they never caused me any problems.

I've been there too, and I agree with Gigawitz. They're just a pain in the rear.
