Default Debating whether or not to renew HOG

Other than getting a pin at events I have made no use of this membership. I get free towing from AMA. Any recommendations?

I renew for the tow benefit. Pins end up in a drawer somewhere.

I get free towing with my Geico insurance. So, we dropped our membership. Kinda miss the magazines...but then realized I never got around to reading many of the ones that came in.

If I was going to a fly-and-ride, I'd start it up again for the better rates than what most dealers rent bikes for. But for now, the little gekko at Geico has me covered.

Does anyone get better insurance rates if they are a HOG member? I know I do.

I've been a HOG member for 23 years. 18 years ago I became a life member. It only cost $150 to convert to a life member back then if you were a regular member for 5 years. HOG is nothing like it used to be. They use to have about 3 great regional rallies a annual rally . They always had alot of free stuff to do . Now they have a annual rally and 2 roadtours. The annual rallies always seem to be at the worst time of the year for there location. The OKC and Knoxville rallies were held in 100 plus degree heat. Even though HOG has 4 times the membership now, there rally attendence is only half of what it was 15 or 20 years ago. Some dealers give a discount on parts and motorclothes to HOG members. Other then that theres not alot of benifits to being a member. How much is a years membership these days anyway?

The real benefits of HOG are social. It's either your crowd, or it isn't.

But since most of the HOG benefits are available elsewhere, I would think you have to find value in what HOG really is: a club.

(Neither my wife nor I are members.)

I think annual membership is about $45. If you want to be a member of the local HOG club, you need to be a member of the National. You can get free towing if you are 50 or more miles from home and the HOG magazine. Our local dealership gives a 20% off coupon at the local HOG meeting once/month. We plan rides for most of the summer weeks, so people can get together if they want to, do fun raisers for the Ronald McDonald house (1000+ riders last year and $115K) and the cancer telethon.

I belong for the above benefits. Don't do all the rides, but it's nice to get together once in a while and ride with others. See new roads and go to new places.

We have about 50 out of the 120 members that I'd say are active. The dealer 20% more than pays for itself... good on tires and most parts. NOT good for a new bike :-(

Forgot to mention... if you take a Rider's class (new or experienced), HOG will reimburse $50 in Harley money.
