Default So is it a Harley?

So if I have a Harley (regardless of what model) and I put an S&S motor in it, is it still considered to be a Harley? What if I was to build a custom chopper and put a Harley motor in it. Would that then be considered a Harley? Was just thinking.

Yes to S&S motor in a Harley, No to a chopper with an HD motor, JMO

... It's a duck. That really is a though one though. In the first situation it is still so much Harley design, but most everyone would agree that the engine is the most important part. In the second situation I think its a custom chopper... If you build a bike from the ground up, there is no way you would even want to call it a Harley. It would be yours.

To me a Harley is a bike that was sold by Harley Davidson, no matter what the mod is. The VIN number registers it as a Harley. I've had people point out a Big Dog and say what a cool Harley that is. Some I would correct because they would want to know, others I don't waste the effort because they would not understand the difference.

When you see these guys who have put a blown 502 big block in a Chevy Camaro, it's still a Chevy and still a Camaro isn't it?
That's my 2 cents

this comes up a lot...people selling customs as harleys when there's no harley parts at ALL.

just like "all" MP3 players are ipods to most people. All soda pop is "coke"...etc.

If it's a Harley VIN it's a Harley. If it's not a Harley VIN it's something else. I call 'em all Big Twins...

I'm thinking the value of the bike is more at question. If you have a Harley rolling frame, and buy a rev tech motor for it , is it still considered a Harley? And would you pay the same money for it even thou it has an aftermarket motor?.,,
