Good Dog Seats?

Good Dog Seats?
I have this strong conviction that ALL dogs are bikers at heart (don't believe me? Next time you see a dog in a car with the windows open check what he's doing - putting his face in the wind!).
I have a young lab pup around 1 year old that I want to get on my bike and I'm looking for a good, safe dog seat that attaches well to the passenger pillion and has a harness hookup so that she'll stay in the seat.
The closest thing I've found is a seat for like $700. Man, even MY seat didn't cost that.
Anyone else have any experiences with dog seats?
P.S. I will never put a side car or a third wheel on my bike, so not interested in side car options. If I wanted that I'd get a droptop car...

LOL.... yeah, that thought kinda crossed my mind too. We got this one from a shelter when she was about 5 wks old. The lady said she's crossed with Weimaraner. Didn't believe her at first, but now at about 11 months she's 69 lbs I'm beginning to wonder...

Guess if I can come up with a good prototype and can make it cost effective to mass produce for less than $500 I've got a retirement job...

I thought about the same thing for my dog. It shouldn't be too hard to fabricate something for this I think,, especially after seeing the "leather hat box" thing. I think there are 3 essentials you'd wanna look out for: 1) whatever you are setting it on,, it would have to ride hella secure, 2) the sidewalls would have to be high enough to give rover a sense of security, and 3) restraints for him. If a guy wanted to,, I think he could pull this off with an old milk crate and some hose clamps,, clamping it onto the luggage rack. That's a good starting place for ideas anyway,, go from there,, before ya know it,, ya built rover a mobile taj. Just sayin is all..........
