Default How do you pop a wheelie?

Well, I figured we had a good thread on how to do a burn-out.

Who out there has popped a wheelie on their HD, and what's the trick in doing it without breaking your neck?

Why would you want to wheelie a Harley? You just paid $15K plus for a Harley. Maybe you should have bought a $6500 crotch rocket to wheelie with.

Can you imagine the front end damage you are doing to your Harley. The forks would be barking for sure.

Just my 2 cents

NO damage at all!!! Byt the way, a new sportbike is in excess of 11k for a nice one.

If you have a bone stock bike you can get the front wheel up.

On my 2006 Street Glide I can get goin in first gear, let off the gas and compress the forks and then as the unload get on the gas while clutching it a bit, ALl this is done within half a second. The front end will come off the ground. Only problem the stock HD does not have enough juice to get it to a balance point. you can ride it till she runs out of power. About 1 foot off the ground or so.

When I do my big bore I will show you guys some wheelies...

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just wondering why anyone would want to chance it. Spend a ton of money to do dumb stuff.

I never said a new crotch rocket. There are plenty of 900cc+ sporties for under $7K.

Can't do one on the Streetglide, but the old Sportster will get up in both 1st and second gears.

With 2 people on the bike, the weight transfer makes it easier to pull up the front wheel. It doesn't take as much as you would think, my shovel pulls it up no problem. And a stock twin cam on a lighter bike should with no problem either. I have lifted the front of stock EVO baggers, stock EVO softail custom and a performance panhead. I think it boils down to whether or not you want to or have to ***** to.

A friend of mine stands his stock shovel straight up, but he is just nuts!!

1) You don't just dump the clutch at 4000
2) Use 2 fingers on the clutch, middle and fore finger
3) Keep the other 2 fingers and thumb wrapped around the grip tight, stock grips work best
4) pull away in 1st gear letting the clutch out until you are moving a little above idle maybe 1400-1600 Rpm's
5) Pull the clutch in (2 fingers ONLY) twist the throttle and as it starts to rev to about 2000 Rpm's maybe a bit more dump the clutch.

It takes a feel for it but when done right you are really just slipping the clutch as the Rpm's increase. There is still a load on the clutch but when it finally hooks up, you are using more torque to launch the bike. Also, if you just dump the clutch from a stand still you will most likely just bake the tire. I have not had a noticeable change in wear on the clutches. It hooks up pretty quickly since it doesn't slip a lot. The key is to do it while the clutches are still cool. If you try over and over, the clutches heat up to much and slip to much.

If you let the clutch out and are using all 4 fingers your hand WILL come off the handle bar and this is not good and can danger your life.

This should only be used for informational purposes and should never be attemped !!! DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER !!!

Here is some video of my shovel. This was not done on public roads.

1. Get ya a big ol' fat gal.
2. Put her right there on the back seat.
3. Yell, real loud, " HEY SWEETCHEEKS, LOOK, THEY'RE GIVIN AWAY FREE BBQ PIG'S FEET"
4. When she stands up on the passenger pegs to look twist the go fast thingy.

At least that's how I hear it's done.[sm=bounceybounce.gif]

1. Install the 98" kit

2. Get rolling hard in 1st gear

3. Abruptly let off the throttle

4. As the front end compresses, nail the throttle again

5. Enjoy!!

6. Works even better two-up!
