Default Can't shift into first, loud grinding sound

Hi!

So I've had my 883c for about a month, had no problems with shifting, down shifting until about 2 days ago, when I noticed this consistent difficulty in getting back into 1st gear. When I try to shift down, it's smooth all the way till it hits 2nd gear and when I try to move it into 1st, there's a loud grinding sound, I've tried kicking it hard, pressing down quickly, pressing down smoothly, I still find like I'm having a lot of resistance pushing it back into 1st.

I can however, shift it back into 1st without the grind at complete stops.

Is this a problem that will cause further issues if left unchecked?

Im riding up to laughlin this weekend, don't want the bike to break down on me

Thanks!

Could be as simple as adjusting the cable.

Try revving the engine a little prior to shifting. Otherwise adjust the clutch.

Can you easily downshift into 1st with the engine off?

If so, like already stated, check clutch freeplay adjustment.

How mention there is no problem at complete stops, so how fast are you going when you try to downshift to 1st?

Have you checked the oil level? And what type of oil is in it?

30 is a little quick to be shifting into first IMHO. I usually don't drop back down into first til I'm damn near stopped (~10mph or so). Second usually has plenty of low end to get goin' again unless you're dumb with the clutch and throttle.
