Default paint flaking off fender

So, I was running a microfiber cloth with some harley gloss over the rear fender on my 2009 Iron 883 last night when a piece of paint at the fender's edge just flaked right off. It's rusty underneath.

WTF?

This better be fixed under warranty. I have a month left on the original warranty. I'm pretty miffed.

It will be, just take it back to the dealer. They should fix it under warranty even if the warranty is expired, it would just take longer. Something like that is obviously not your fault if the rust is under the paint and there is no evidence of past damage and a repaint.

I had the same issues on my 07 Train.
Front fender got replaced under warrantee.

Take it to your dealer.

I don't want to sound naive, but does it have to be the dealer who sold me the bike? Or can it be a dealer closer to my home?

Update: HD says it is a known issue and they will replace the fender for free.

I am pretty happy about this.

Sure makes it easier to stomach when they admit it and take care of it without a battle.

Glad they hooked you up.

Yea, me too. But if it is a "known issue," shouldn't they do a recall?

That sucks...I just spent $400 getting the front and rear fenders repainted on my 2008 Street Bob. Same problem. Paint chipped of the bottom of the rear fender with the paint bubbling up around the tail light and the front was bubbling around the mudflap hole
