Default LED Headlight - My Review - Just Installed

I got the LED headlight and fog lights from HD installed yesterday. Here is my opinion in case you are wondering on spending the $1000.

The headlight by itself is worthless without the fog lights. You need both fog lights and headlights for adequate illumination.

The light is pure white. Anything reflective such as road signs, reflective tape, road cones, etc, lights up for miles away in a very brilliant glow. It's amazing.

The road directly in front of the bike lights up like a foodball fied. Very bright and white.

However, the downfall with these lights is the distance. Its horrible. Incandecent bulbs have far better distance illumination. These hardly light anything up past 15' on the ground.

Asthetically they are cool looking too. However, a big safety issue is the daylight light is no good at all. Incandecent bulbs in daylight glow very bright and the glow takes up the entire headlight housing. These LED lights are just a few stripes of light within the housing and do not provide much day lighting at all.

I think the technology needs to be improved. I'm sure as it does the price will come down. HID kits for cars used to sell for $1400+ and now sell for $40.

I'm about 60% satisfied but I don't think what you get is worth the money.

I have heard this same story over and over from many different people and sources. I will stay with my stock lighting for now instead of spending $1000.00 for different problems. Will prob go with PIA bulbs in near future tho. Thanks for the review....

Thanks for the review.

I think I will wait until the day comes when my bulb burns out, then I will drop the cash.

Hopefully the price will come down by then.

I guess that is one way to up the post count.

My model bike did not come stock with either auxiliary lighting or fog lamps. I also purchased the black LED headlamp upon its release. Personally, I find the black LED headlamp much better than stock.

I also adjusted the "aim" of the LED headlight since in the stock position, the light beam was too high. The instructions also contain information about how to adjust the aim if anyone is interested.

Here's my review of the black LED Headlight (no spots / fogs).

It freaking rocks... I can see at night!

I'm pretty much blind at night. I bought the LED lights as a matter of safety, for those times when I can't get to the hotel before nightfall. Since I installed the LEDs, my friends make me go first at night. I have my spots wired so they stay on with the high beams. That made a big difference.

Ditto - I did the mirrors with the round thing on them and the LED lamp on my SG first thing. I've had to fiddle with the aim - but I can see at night now. Worth it. Trim ring rattles though - hate that.

I installed this light:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

along with the matching passing/driving lamps:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Then I added this:

http://www.comagination.com/modulator.htm

and the Harley Gods said ..... LET THERE BE LIGHT!!!

I couldn't believe how much MORE light those lamps put out over stock, all for less than 200 bucks.

The modulator just makes the headlight that much more visible in daylight.
