Why buy and not ride

Why buy and not ride
It ponders me as to why people pay hard earned cash for a bike and don't ride it. Point in question. I bought a 2006 XL-883R with 1500 miles on it. I've put a thousand miles on it myself in just over a month. By summers end i'll be at 5000 miles if not more.
If you search Craigslist you will see tons of low under 5k mile Harley Davidson/ Metrics. The bill of sale on my Sportster was near $8000.00 and i payed $4500.00 for it from a local guy about 5 miles up the road who had it listed on Craigslist.
I just can't understand how come so many people spend the money for a motorcycle and don't ride there investment. So the question is WHY buy and NOT ride?.

For the same reason they buy boats and never use them, or RV's or ATV's. It's a toy they just have to own. After they own it the fun is over.
Sometimes life gets in the way. I had a great touring bike I had to sell because I went back to school. Stuff happens.

Some people don't ride much trailer it here and there then ride around the rally for a few days or to the local bike night and that's about all the ridding they do, which is fine with me makes for some nice low mileage bikes.

IT's two reasons for me. One is a few days after I bought it my MIL was put in the hospital 1200 miles away. We had to rush down there, and then she died the next day. Then we had to bury her, and take care of a lot of other stuff.
The other reason is I have a partially paralyzed right leg and foot due to a army injury from years ago. I can only ride when I am having a really good day, and then only for fairly short distances...but, hey, it's better than not riding at all.

I think you can chalk it up to lots of reasons. Some buy the bike and then realize that riding is just not for them. Others may ride, but only short hops to the local watering hole or around town. Personally, I only get maybe 1-2 days a week when I can ride, usually depends on work, kids or whatever else I may have on my plate. Some years I've only been able to put 2-3k on the bike others 5k or more. Either way I ain't sellin it for anything!
