Default Ape hangers

Looking for some pictures and feedback on putting 12" apes on my 10 Wide Glide. I have a bad back and am looking for a more comfortable riding position. don't want to spend the 800 + and regret it. Any advice from Wide Glide owners? Thanks

The only advice I can give you is search the forum for install threads, buy a manual and do the work yourself for 1/2 the price. Then you have the rest for other mods and gas.

Best move I ever did was do all my own work. I learned on the fly and now know exactly how to tear the bike apart and put it all back together, should there ever be any problems.

I have 16's on my '94 and find them very comfortable. If you don't have a windshield though the more upright position might be tiring at speed. I have a shield and can spend all day on the bike with no problems.

Ride a RK not a WG but two things come to mind. Set up your seat before you set up the bars. If not you may be moving them if you get a new seat. Secondly my 16's were the best thing I have done to my bike in terms of making my bad back not hurt so much after the first or second gas stop. The other thing that made it even better was a H Hammock and the adjustable back rest. I only put it on for long rides but it really helps.

I put a sundowner solo seat on , it give a little more lumbar support than the stock seat. I should be riding a RK with my back but still love the WG

Best thing I ever did for my back was switch to apes. Mine are only 8" with a 2" riser and they put my hands right at should height with my low-slung saddle. I'm only 5'7".

The narrower diameter also brought much-improved handling in tight quarters.

There's a lot of ape-hate out there, but if you have a bad back (and bad posture) like I do, they will cure that lower back pain on long rides.

That is a bit much. I was able to use my stock cables, so maybe that's why it only cost me $400 which includes paying my local indy for labor.

Road 6 Customs apes are only $150.
