I'm just curious---I have vance and hines slip ons...would there be any great harm---just on occasion, if you rode with one baffle in and one out?? I've just always wondered that.

A neighbor of mine bought a bike where the baffles had been gutted out like a hack job. He has ordered some exhausts but in the meantime it has one exhaust that has a baffle and one that does not. He states that he asked a lot of people that mess bikes and they said it should be fine, so it got me wondering thats all.

Oh! I always read mufflers and baffles supplied a needed back pressure. I know on my old panhead, I never ran anything but empty pipe...no mufflers or baffles and it ran fine. Nowadays, with all that stuff on bikes, they may need it.

I hope someone here knows.

I had a baffle blow out of one of my cocktail shaker mufflers. Rode with one baffle for a couple of months. I didn't notice much difference.

Hmm!

Tuned exhaust must be useless...

Running one baffle and not equalizing back-pressure will effect performance, it is not good for the engine, it puts strain on engine parts. Will you see emediate damage? not likely. Why do it???

Now! if your running a 2 into 1 Pipe, different story.

I am surprised at the responses or lack of. Oh! that's right, these are Harley's, not Sport Bikes.

That's how mine is. VH big Radius with no baffles. I got the bike from a retired mechanic that has previously been a test rider for Triumph bikes. He know his stuff, so I never questioned...

No baffles and one baffle are two different discussions, no baffles would require tuning for that condition or your engine would run lean. I would hope that anyoneone running open pipes has made the needed fuel changes.

That said, running one baffle in a dual pipe system makes no sense and is bad for the motor.

It's not a good idea. Likely it just causes a drop in performance though.
