Default Interesting Sights Today

i saw 2 interesting things today when driving.

First, I say a guy in a leather jacket, long hair and piercings riding a bicycle. It was a painted flat-black mountain bike with ape hangers. It was funny and kinda cool at the same time.

Second, I saw a guy on an ultra classic that had a wheels on the sides - kinda like training wheels. It didn't look home-made, but it didn't look very stable on the bumpy highway and the curves. We were following him merging off of one highway and on to another and going around a corner around 45-50. He was learning hard into the curve and the bike still lifted up off of the inside wheel. It was a little freaky. Just kept hoping that he knew what he was doing.

Sadly no pics because I was driving.

So, how big were these training wheels?

They were regular sized wheels. I doubt they were intended to be training wheels. It looked like a cheap trike alternative. Very odd though.

I know those training wheels as you call them have kept many an old guy riding for a few more years. Some people just cant afford to lay down 40K on a trike. I have seen five or six bikes with them and usually the guy in the seat is in his 70's. When your knees go and you can no longer pick up a bike you might even buy a set. I think I will because I never want to be sitting on the porch talking about "back when". I am living the best days of my life right in the here and now, white hair and all.

One of the most popular, Voyager kits, kept my buddy on his Sportster while he was recovering from his heart attack. That's the only way his doctor would let him ride. Here's a link:

First set I ever saw was on a Sporty ridden by a Vet with both legs cut off at the knee. Him and his Sporty were both hard core. Not to sure about the 6' hottie walking around with him though.

And there's a Kawasaki riding around here with the small wheel kit on it painted to match the bike. They ride it too,I see 'em all the time.

Not for me yet, but whatever gets you in the wind.

It wasn't the fact that there were 4 wheels or even why someone might want to have them on their bike. It was the way it went around the curve that I noticed. Maybe it is supposed to do this, but it went up on 2 wheels and it looked really unstable. It would have scared the crap out of me going that fast.

I'd probably do a double take myself but whatever it takes to keep someone riding, if that's what they want to do. I'm sure they get asked about it and get all kind of comments.
