Cleaning mufflers
#2
I've heard a lot of people let the mufflers get hot and wipe it off, some use easy off engine cleaner and I've had good luck with white diamond metal polish and goo gone.

I had to clean my wife's shoe off of my pipes but I read here to use a penny, lay it flat and rub gently. It worked. But nylon...I'm lost on that.

Easy off oven cleaner. Start the bike, and warm it up. Spray some of the oven cleaner on a shop rag, and lay it over the muffler. Don't breath the fumes, they're nasty. Some guys say they can spray it on cold, and leave it overnight, but I've never had any luck with that method.

I have used steel wool on the pipes several times after similar incidents and it works wonders. SJ Ron

Aluminum foil...cut square, dip in water...start running lightly at first and work into it. You can start leaning into it after a while, you'll see a paste form and feel it get smooth. Aluminum is software than steel, it cannot scratch.
Super fine steel wool. Rub light to medium, never hard....but also works well. Fine grade steel wool will not scratch up the chrome so long as you don't bear down hard, actually it makes a very nice shine....it's like claying.
