lowest profile half helmet
Just wondering what the lowest profile DOT helmet is and where to get it from. I am tired of looking like a mushroom head

If you want DOT compliant, I've heard the Bell Pit Boss and Bell Shorty sit fairly low. I haven't tried either on to confirm that though. When I look at the pictures and youtube videos, they don't look too bad, but I think it's partly due to how the side straps/ear flaps give the illusion of the helmet not sticking out as much.

Got my HCI 100 half shell from Renegade Classics in Baltimore a few years back. Sales person told me it was the lowest profile helmet on the market. Wearing it to this day and still like it (visor removed; lots of stickers added!!!).

Not DOT but very low profile is a ski helmet. I took my ski helmet and painted it flat black. I then put on 3 visor snaps with a pop rivet tool. Heat gun an old DOT sticker if you want. These have thermoplastic hard shells that won't fool anybody that picks it up. But these are very light, close fitting, looks good and protects downhill racers skiing at over 60 per.

The real carbon fiber Daytona one in size small. It is the smallest shell size. For me, it required me to chisel out 3/16" of the closed cell foam. Easly done. Just take your time. I got the polo one and so I also, after shaving the foam, popped it all out of the shell. It's only held in by a small glob of hot melt glue in the bottom. I then cut a section of the extra trim glued at the front bill that is hidden by the foam and after clipping the liner brim, sewed the extra in. (I wear an extra large in my full face) I finally put it all back together spinning the liner 180 and hot glued it back in. I wear the brim 180 over my neck. I only use it local in hot weather, but it's like the difference in boxers and jockey underwear. Its' weight is just under 2 lbs.. Interesting, but the full face is only 1oz over 3 lbs. After wearing the full face for a while, when you put on the Daytona, your head stays hard for a good 1/2 the ride. When it sits next to my full face, it's almost 1/2 the size. I know it's a joke, but I am old with full coverage Medicare and 100% paying type 'F' rider. And a good ash man is only about $500 these days...

If you're looking for true DOT protection, it's all about the foam padding and you can't get that without the mushroom head.
Like others have done, you can buy small and chisel out the foam, but do you still care about losing the actual protection you paid for?
I got the Outlaw Ultra Slim (before they recalled them for failing DOT, haha). Here's a pic. You know you're not getting true DOT, but you can not get the look otherwise.
