Default Tank Emblem Installation

An anyone tell me what a dealer might charge to install a different set of customer provided tank emblems?

Most of them are held on with double sided foam tape. Are you sure you want to pay an arm and a leg to basically put on a sticker?

Assuming the current emblems are stick on (and not decals that have been clear coated over), and the new emblems are stick on, why not do it yourself? Use a hair dryer to warm up the old emblems, then use fishing line (not spyderwire or other rough line) and work it behind the emblems all the way thru and they'll fall off. Clean up the glue with "Oops", "Goo Gone", or other cleaner. Then measure and apply the new emblems.

Most dealers charge around $90 an hour labor. You really want to pay that? Because they'll eat up that whole hour for a 20 minute job.

Guessing it'd be a couple of hours of shop labor, so a couple hundred bucks?

I've got a set of 61-62 panhead emblems I'm going to put on the Slim once it's even remotely tolerable in the garage. Like Danny said above, take off the old ones, clean up the tank sides with one of those products, measure, test-fit, apply.

It sounds like getting the old emblems off isn't a big deal but the new emblems don't have any adhesive left on the back. What's the best option there?

Yep. A $5 roll of 3M double sided foam tape from any auto parts store, or even Wally world.

i'm doing this right now. fishing line and some wd40 is what i used to remove the old ones. take your new ones and put a piece of masking tape on it and find where the badge lays the best and tape in there. stand back and make sure that's where you want it and then put some tape on the tank in front and back of badge with pencil marks centering the badge. you can then remove the backing from the badge and use the pencil marks to align the badge. not to tough to do, just take your time and make them look right to your eye.

I measured and did these myself. They looked slanted too far on the side stand but they are perfect with the bike off the kickstand. Simple job. These had back plates that the emblems screwed on to ..................

I did mine myself too. Hardheaded has the right idea. Just take your time and you'll be fine.
