Filling the trans

Filling the trans
The manual says the bike must be level and upright, with the dipstick resting on the threads. Having never done it before, does that mean off the stand like on a lift? Does the stick need to be screwed in? I can read and follow instructions, just wondered if I'm reading it right. Thanks.

I suppose you could get out the bike jack raise the bike till it's level, check the fluids, lower the bike. Or why not sit on the bike, bring it vertical off the jiffy stand then reach down and check the fluid?

Pull out your tranny dipstick and look at it. On my dads ultra it has 2 level checks, one mark is the one to check while the bike is on the side stand and the other mark is if the bike is standing upright. You might check and see if your dipstick has those marks too. As far as checking the fluid, my dyna says to let the dipstick rest on the threads(not screwed in), yours might be different. Good luck.

It does have the two level indicators. And seniorsuperglide not that filler. On my 5 speed, it's close to where the clutch cable comes in. Recessed allen head plug. I'll put it on the lift, rest the stick on the threads and check level to the top mark. Correct?

If you don't have a jack just put a block of wood under the kickstand until the bike is nearly level.

If it has the 2 level indicators I would put the bike level on the lift, fill the trans and fill it to the full level on the stick for the bike being upright. Then I would take the bike off the lift and rest it on the side stand and check and see if it shows full at the level indicator for it being on the side stand. If you check it both ways with it showing full both ways then at each level indicator you know you can check it either way.

Following the manuals instructions, it appears I am over filled. Stick resting on the threads, bike upright on the jack, and fluid all the way up to where the dipstick transitions from round to half round, well above the full mark.
