Default Dealer prices!

I am thinking of putting 12" bars on my Road King. Went to the local dealer and they quoted me nearly $1700 for the mod. A friend of mine told me to call his independent and he quoted me $480. Can anyone tell me if there is $1200 of value in going to the dealer?

Obviously I know the dealer will charge more and I wouldbe willing to pay a bit more for the relationship. .. But 200 percent more?

What is your dealer's labor rate? Apply that to the book rate for replacing handlebars. If it requires longer cables the number of hours work is high.

Buying the bars and all the cables is a pricey thing on its own.

The labor rate is 94/hr. To be fair the $480 didn't include parts, but the parts are about $350.... Of course those aren't Harley.

Dealer wanted 700 to put bars on my sgs. That included everything but the bars which I already had. I thought that was hight so I did my own install. 1700 is fn outrageous.

Dealer wanted $290 labor plus $89 for Heritage style bars and a throttle by wire kit

Not sure about them soldering extension wires for throttle otherwise I would have it done.

I've never changed our heritage bars, cause I love them. but I've seen prices all over the place..
Of course most Indy can beat about any Dealer,, ,mainly because of the Labor cost and they charge what the book says. most Indy's charge actual time, which is usually less.

The son is have some work done on her ST Gld, and ended up buying the parts at one dealer (where we bought our bikes and still get 20%off parts) but they wanted almost 400 more labor for installing headed grips and cruise Control and a couple other things hes having done than another dealer we use sometimes...

So he bought at one and having installed at the other..

you just have to price around if looking for the best deal..
