I am looking at getting the Wild 1 Chubby 12.5" bars installed. That entails the cost of the bars, cable extensions and labor. My dealership quoted me $1500.00, but that seems extremely high. The bars and all parts would be about 500 - 600. Is it possible that labor could be about $900?? It looks like I may be in search of an independent... Any thoughts?
Dealer here was minimum of$1k.said at least six hours of labor. I did it myself and there is no way a trained harley mechanic should take six hours to do the install...my first time and did it in under 3 hours.
What all needs to be done for the cable extensions? That is the part that is hanging me up. If I were to do it on my own, does anyone know all of the parts that I would need to order?
Between 1000-1200….just did one at the shop and needed to replace all the cable (no abs) with hidden wires in the bars….2011 Ultra Classic and came out to $1068.50
Would have been more but needed work at the shop to keep one guy busy.
Sure seems like a lot of $$$ for bars. You can buy a ton of stuff with the $$$ you would save if you did it yourself.
The job is a PITA...no doubt about it...but it does not take a top tier HD engineer to do it! A few basic hand tools, the Service Manual, a torque wrench and your new parts. For that kind of jack I would sure make this a DIY!
I'm thinking the same thing... Is doing a cable extension on an ABS bike much different? What all will I need? Cable kit, electric extensions, bars and bushings... Anything else?
