Why buy new?

Why buy new?
Something a poster on the Sporty forum said got me to thinking (and not much else does): Why buy new? I did buy my Sporty new but why not let someone else take the depreciation? That's what I do with my automobiles, preferably something under 10K miles and built within the last 5 years. Plus, Harley-D's are built to last and their riders really take good care of their bikes. And when you buy used, buy from the owner directly. Why pay the dealer's property taxes and electricity?

Someone has to buy new, or there'd be no used.
I prefer to buy new at this point in my life, because I can.
But there are plenty of nice almost new low mileage bikes around that someone else took the hit on.

This.
Bought all my metrics used because I really didn't care. Once I could afford an HD I wanted to be the only owner and make it my own. Plus, I have no intention of letting it become a low mileage, used bike for someone else. My bike's get ridden. (have to add a caveat: somebody is going to get a fairly low mileage, 1 year old Heritage only because the wife didn't like riding on the back of it). The Limited will be in the garage for many years and miles to come!

I bought new because I could afford it. I have no intention of selling my Fat bob so depreciation doesn't worry me too much.

I agree. This is why the depreciation, or resale value, never enters my mind when getting something.
