Default What's the rule on service dates in relation to service intervals and warranty?

Just what the title says....

Is there a general rule?

I am at 4300 miles now. I can service it now before a trip, or after and probably be over 5,000 miles. Anyone know do you void the warranty if you do the 5,000 mile service too late? What is considered too late? Normally I service it before the benchmark to be safe, but really don't want to until I return from trip.

Depending on how long your trip is, you are fine to wait. If you did the break in service you only have 3300 miles on that oil. They are designed to go 5k before service, so you should be fine.

Not sure there is a "set in stone" answer to what is considered too late.

I know going over by a few hundred miles won't hurt anything as far as any warranty coverage goes.

I usually am over by a few hundred miles in service because of timing. Hasn't been an issue as I've gotten warranty work done after the fact. Don't know if there is a set in stone number but be reasonable. If the choice is taking in in a couple of hundred early versus a thousand or so late be early. Even if you exceeded it by a thousand or so they would still have to prove that that is what caused the problem, I just wouldn't want the hassle if I could avoid it.

My '13 was service at 1k miles and again at 5k and I service every 5k therafter. thwe 5 k service only has 4k on the oil so should be no problem. Your dealership wants to retain your business so it is in their best interest to make things work on the new bike warranty, it is a different story though when you are trying to get work done under the extended warranty program.

How many miles for your trip? Do it before or stop on your road trip to get oil, filter etc.

I'll probably take my Toy Hauler, so that saves 600 miles just there an back. I'd say I'll ride probably 500 to 800 while there. My best guess is if I don't ride a bunch before my trip, I'd end up with close to 5k on the clock after my trip.
I think I just answered my own question really. I guess my concern was if I go to say 5500, could that affect things? I do have an extended warranty, so I'd hate to give them a reason to hassle me if there is a problem. Maybe a good way to look at it is to keep the first digit on the odometer a 5xxx. )

Thanks all!

Meh. One of mine is 500 over and I'm not worried.
