Whats the MAN think about some helmets in some states......DOT or novelty?

Making a ten state trip though ri, ct, ny, pa, w va, va, md, tn nc, sc.

Do the cops give ya hard time if ya wearing a novelty helmet in those states??
I wear one in Mass all of the time and they dont' bother me about it.....i DO have a DOT helmet but that gets to buffeting around alot and wears out my neck muscles.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight.....

I wear DOT and non DOT with a DOT sticker that I bought on E-Bay. Never been bothered.

 

I agree, buy a sticker if you're worried about it. But I'd say that the level of hassle would depend more on the individual cop than anything.

 

I've been wearing a non DOT helmet continuously since 1989 and have been pulled over too many times to recall while wearing it. Not once until TODAY did a Policeman ever say anything about it. I got pulled over going 50 in a 35 and the Policeman let me go on the speeding but mentioned the helmet. I almost didn't know what to say because I've been wearing it so long and it's never come up. He didn't ticket me for it because he said "it's your head not mine" and we both shook on it and off I went.

BTW, I've ridden in all the states you've listed and lived in some and never had a problem there so I wouldn't worry about it.

 

Some states have very expensive fines for putting a DOT sticker on a Non DOT helmet.

 

Did you hit the search button for this? You're going to get all kinds on answers & when it's all said & done, you're going to wear the non dot helmet. Just enjoy your trip.

 

Non Dot with a Dot sticker. I HATE helmets and anyone telling me I have to wear one. 40$ Voss with a Dot sticker unless it is cold and then I wear a FF modular. About the only thing Florida riding has going for it as it bores me to tears riding there. Sorry my Florida friends..... Helmet laws suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

If the lid has a DOT sticker how does a LEO know it's not a DOT approved helmet? Does the LEO perform a scientific impact test on the side of the road?

 

they are specially trained to recognize the criminal helmet. The same as they have X-ray eyes to tell if you are seat belted in the car

 

I think if you want to wear a non dot approved helmet that you should and demand your rights. But stand up for all our rights by not putting a dot sticker on that helmet, that is just unfair to those that wear an approved dot helmet.
