If you don't get much response here, you might try posting this in the EVO forum. You'll get plenty of help there. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-classic-models-84/ You should probably be more specific as well. Like whether you're getting any spark to the plugs, etc.

I had an '87 FXST and I think you may have a similar issue that I had.
My bike, once warmed up to running temperature would sometimes just stop running.
Later on, it became hard to start even when cold, and then it finally would not start at all.
I quickly determined that it was the electronic control module.
The biggest problem is that the ECM is mounted to the bottom of the chrome "horseshoe" oil tank!
Removing and replacing the ECM in the original position requires removal of the battery, the battery box, the exhaust system, and draining and removing the oil tank.
AFTER I did the replacement, I discovered the dealer was simply '"cutting" the wiring harness off at the ECM and re-routing the wires up behind the battery and mounting the ECM on top of the rear fender (where it should have been in the first place)!
FWIW, just before I went through the above described exercise, I attempted
converting my bike over to a "points and condenser" system.
I quickly discovered that the "cam lobes" on the crankshaft were not machined to the proper specs, and I could NOT set the points to where the bike would run properly for any amount of time.
Good luck with your machine.

What ignition system and have checked the coil while hot to see if the plugs are firing ? Your charging system isn't going to have anything to do with not starting while hot

OP, if your voltage checks at 13.7 while the motorcycle is running, the charging system is fine. You have something else going on that is causing your bike to not fire when it gets hot.
Here is what I would recommend... pull the timing plate cover off of the nose cone and checked for frayed wires at the timing plate pickup, or see if the insulation has melted off of there causing problems, that is a common problem... next I would check the coil.
