I have a 2014 iron 883 and I am about the same as you weight wise. I put on the 944's with the HD springs and have had them on for only a few hundred miles. First off I did stay with the original 11" length, which is very short stroke. So far they are a good improvement, but not the best. I think if I had went with a taller shock that would have been outstanding. I guess the thing is I am still playing with them so I may not have them perfectly set up yet. They still bottom out, but it takes much more to do so. The original shocks bottomed out over every little bump, but hey I by myself am at max capacity for this bike.

I have Progressive 944 on an 08 SG and I don't bottom the shocks out but I find them to be very harsh. I'm 216, my wife weighs........well let's just say she's no princess, I pull a trailer, I don't think the shocks have ever bottomed, but even on the second to the softest setting the ride is hard. For a bigger guy, maybe they'd be alright.

***EDIT EDIT EDIT**** I'm sorry, I have 940's and not 944.

Did you find any reviews on other shocks. Not dishing the 944 but once again another shock thread not asking for the best shock for a fat guy but opinions on just one shock. almost like an advertisement for the 944 masked as a real enquiry for help.

with the amount of recent threads on shocks it should be well known that the 944 are better than stock but not as good as JRI or Ohlins.

i just installed the 944 with the heavy duty springs a few weeks ago...also went with the progressive monotubes in the front. this was on a 2012 EGC. took a 6,300 mile trip starting on memorial day. i weigh 250 and the saddlebags and tour pack were completely full. even with the shocks on the softest setting, they were very stiff and not enjoyable. they did not soften up on the trip. they are no improvement over the stock air shocks, and i would definitely not tell anyone to buy them. my back is still bothering me from the beating it took.

I installed a set of 944s with the standard duty springs a few weeks ago. Not very impressed either. I ride solo most of the time and weigh 250lbs. I have them cranked 5 turns from the softest setting and they seem to work on minor road bumps but harsh as hell on dips and rough roads. I feel like I wasted a pile of cash on these.
