It's been years since I was there; but I always went early... the vendors were there, Main Street was still open, and things were less crazy. I expect you'll get similar replies from regular attendees

Have fun!

If you're there for the riding and vendors, and not the party, you picked the best time, I've heard. If you're there for the party, you'll be leaving just before it begins!

I live here. Vendors are setting up, most will wait until somewhere around the 24th or 25th of July. They are only licensed for something like 15 days, Full Throttle is open along with some other venues. Black Hills Harley has set up their BIG tent and it is filled with bikes for sale. Riding is fantastic with less traffic. Be careful not to over ride the roads. Many corners will sneak up on you. Come and enjoy. The later/closer to the start of Rally the more crazy people get.

Don't live there, but gone there every year since 1994, missing only 2009 & 2011. Go early, stay late. Member of Hart Ranch Camping Resort, so always have a great place to stay & ride from.

Lower prices, less traffic, people are less tense and the roads are fantastic. I go every year the week before. I might spend 4 hours in Sturgis. I'm there to ride.

And this year I hope to be able to test ride the new road glide

We're heading out Saturday from Wisconsin to Iowa, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and hitting Sturgis on Tuesday the 29th for a couple days leaving on Friday. We have 9 bikes and most of us have been to Sturgis before. We're looking forward to riding the Black Hills rides without a half million bikes on the roads.
